It would be better if you attempt gate in 2009.
Very few questions will appear from the fourth year syllabus.
Also you will get a know how of the type of questions you may
get in GATE..It will be really gr8 if you can crack gate in your
third year itself.. you can have a really gr8 fourth year ,,, and if
you don't get through in the first attempt.. you will have enough
time in fourth year to hav another go. But do try your best in the
first attempt itself.. dnt think that you hav another chance in fourth
year. You can utilize your time in doing a really good project in fourth year.

I've got answers so some of your questions, but not to all of them.

for the
II) que the ans. is min. n+1 states as if we take n=1 then we'll get 2 states
for n=2 we'll have 3 states, for n=3 we'll have 4 states and so on. So for n states we'll have min. n+1 states.

IV) que the ans is (a).
as if you construct a machine with one initial state and
second state with a transition 1 and mark it as final state and let this be state� (A) and then another state (B) from a by making a transition of 0 and marking it as a final state too.
Now, make a self loop of 0 in� (B) and self loop of 1 in (A)� carry a transition of 1 from� (B) to (A).
This machine will accept all the binary strings 1,� 2, 3......

V). ans. is (a)

as L*� denote universal set and universal set is regular. and union of universal set with any set will� be regular.

VI) ans should be both as the first grammer will generate all comination of 'a' i.e a,aa,aaa,aaaa. .... and the second grammer will generate abc, abca, abcaca, abcacaca.... ...� � �

VII) ans. is (d) as
in� (a)� both the sets will generate strings 1, 101, 10101, 1010101.....
in (b) both will generate odd no. of 'x' i.e. x, xxx, xxxxx......
and, in (c) both will generate all combination� of x except null i.e x, xx, xxx......

I am sorry but don't have the answer to other ques. Please send me the ans. you get for the same ques.
