Early Life

Virender Sehwag, fondly known as Viru, is an Indian Cricket player and considered to be one of the best batsmen India has got. He is a right handed batsman and a casual Off Spin bowler. Sehwag has a number of records to his credit, including the highest score by an Indian player in a Test match that he achieved in a match against South Africa played at Chennai on 26th of March 2008. He scored 319 runs off just 278 balls in the match, which was also the fastest Triple Century in Test Cricket. Sehwag is one of the three batsmen in the world who have scored 2 Triple Centuries in Test Cricket, and scored the fastest ODI century by an Indian Cricketer in March 2009 off just 60 balls in an ODI match against New Zealand on 11th of March 2009 at Hamilton.
One Day International (ODI) Debut
The One Day International (ODI) Cricket career of Virender Sehwag began with an ODI match against Pakistan played in Chandigarh on 1st of April 1999, although he just faced 2 balls by Shoaib Akhtar and got LBW out after scoring a single run in this match. 2 years later, he scored 58 runs off 54 balls in an ODI match against Australia played in Bangalore to win his first Man of the Match award. He also took 3 wickets, giving away 59 runs in this match.

Test Debut
Sehwag debuted in Test Cricket with a Test match against South Africa played at Bloemfontein on 3rd of November 2001. He played an impressive 105 runs in the first innings and 31 runs in the second innings of the match, although he took no wickets and gave away 22 runs in the match.

He is known for making huge scores, and the last 11 centuries he has scored have been over 150 runs, breaking Sir Donald Bradman's record of scoring 7 centuries more than 150 runs in a row.

Overall Performance
In his overall Test Cricket career till April 2009, Sehwag has played 70 Test matches and has scored 6000 runs including 15 centuries and 19 half-centuries with an average of 50.06 runs and a highest score of 319 runs. He also took 29 wickets in these matches giving away 1265 runs, with an average of 43.62 runs.

Sehwag has also played 205 One Day International (ODI) matches, and has scored 6592 runs in these matches with an average of 34.33 runs and a highest score of 130 runs. He has managed to grab 84 wickets in ODI matches, giving away 3531 runs at an average of 40.58 runs.
Sehwag Aggressive Performance
The table below shows Sehwag's progression:

Virender Sehwag's last 7 centuries Runs Against Venue Year
319 South Africa Chennai 2008-09
309 Pakistan Multan 2003-04
293 Sri Lanka Mumbai 2009-10
254 Pakistan Lahore 2006-07
201 Pakistan Bangalore 2004-05
173 Pakistan Mohali 2003-04
164 South Africa Kanpur 2004-05
155 Australia Chennai 2004-05
195 Australia Melbourne 2003-04

# The partnership between Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid, now undefeated on 403, has sent quite a few records crashing. They are listed below:

1. Highest opening partnership in Pakistan. Previous best: 298 - Aamer Sohail and Ijaz Ahmed v West Indies at Karachi, 1997-98.

2. Highest opening partnership for India against Pakistan. Previous best: 200 - Sunil Gavaskar and Krish Srikkanth at Chennai, 1986-87.

3. Highest opening partnership at Lahore. Previous best: 192 - Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan, 1978-79.

4. Highest opening stand against Pakistan. Previous best: 368 - Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs, 2002-03.

The pair are also 11 runs away from breaking the all time record for opening partnerships, set by Pankaj Roy and Vinoo Mankad against New Zealand at Madras in 1955-56.

# Virender Sehwag has scored the second fastest double century in terms of balls faced - 182. Click here for the full list of fastestcenturies.

# Virender Sehwag has broken the Indian record for the most runs scored off boundaries in an innings. Batting on 247, Sehwag has 46 boundaries, constituting nearly 75 % of his runs. VVS Laxman held the previous record of 44 boundaries during his innings of 281 at Kolkata.For the full list of most runs in boundaries in an innings click here.

# Virender Sehwag has scored the fastest hundred by an Indian opener against all countries. Sehwag got to his century off 93 balls, beating the previous record by a whisker - Sunil Gavaskar's ton off 94 balls againstWest Indies at New Delhi in 1983-84.

The third day of the test between India and South Africa saw a lot of records being broken. I've compiled a list of the records that were broken, and also compiled some useful facts.

* Third Fastest Double Century
Sehwag scored his double century in 194 balls, the third fastest ever. He now has the second & third fastest double centuries.
* Fastest Triple Century
Sehwag scored his triple century in a mere 278 balls. The fastest triple century and the only triple century to be scored at more than a run a ball. The next fastest triple century came in 362 balls, here's a list of the fastest triples.
* Third player with two triple centuries.
Sehwag is only the third player with two triple centuries. The other players are Brian Lara and Sir Don Bradman. What is amazing of this feat is that Sehwag has played only 55 test matches, Brian Lara played 130 matches and Bradman 53.
* Highest score by any player in India
Sehwag has the highest score in India by any player breaking VVS Laxman's epic 281 at Kolkata. Conveniently he has the only triple century in India.
* 10 consecutive centuries of more than 150 runs
Sehwag's last ten centuries have all been above 150. This shows that when he crosses 100, he crosses 150 often. The closest to this record is current India coach Gary Kirsten with 7
* Most number of runs scored in a single day of play (since 1954)
Sehwag scored 254 runs, the most number of runs in a single day's play since Denis Compton's 273 in 1954
* Consecutive 200 plus partnerships
Sehwag and India are the only player, team to have two consecutive 200 run partnerships in the same innings.
* Most number of runs scored in a single day in India
India scored 368 runs in the day's place, the highest ever.

Random Sehwag Facts:
* Only Indian who scored triple century
* Sehwag's last triple century against SA
* Sehwag hit 41 boundaries and 5 sixes in his 309
* Out of his 16 centuries, 11 are more than 150. A conversion rate of 78%
* He clearly learn't from Sachin's nervous 90's. Sehwag raced from 90-100, 190-200 and 290-300 with atleast a couple of boundaries or a six. he didn't sit around much in the 90's.
